Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Year B 13 June 2021
“For we must all be manifested before the judgment seat of Christ, that everyone may receive the proper things of the body, according as he hath done, whether it be good or evil.” II Cor. 5:10
The Most Blessed Trinity (Three Divine Persons in one God) is a Holy Family. In the interior life of the Holy Trinity (Circuminscession), God the Father loves Himself and begets God the Son. God the Son loves the Father and the Father loves the Son and the fruit of their love is God the Holy Spirit. In Holy Matrimony, the family is similar to the Blessed Trinity. The husband and wife love each other, and the fruit of their love is a child. This is the unity of love and procreation which is essential to every marriage. St. Paul in today’s Second Reading from Second Epistle to the Corinthians (5: 6-10) refers to the judgment that we will all undergo at the end of our lives on how we have lived our lives: “For we must all be manifested before the judgment seat of Christ, that every one may receive the proper things of the body, according as he hath done, whether it be good or evil.” II Cor. 5:10 Every married couple, husband and wife, will be judged how they lived the unity of procreation in their marriage To separate the unity of love from the unity of procreation is to contracept the marital act. It is a grave sin which could cause eternal damnation. The Cure of Ars, St. John Vianney, told one woman who thought that she was too old to have more children: “There are many women in hell today who would not accept the children that God wanted to give them.” Pope St. John Paul II said that “Contraception is so intrinsically evil that it can not be practiced for any reason whatsoever.”
The Culture of Death
The prophet Isaiah in speaking about the coming Messiah said: “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. To them that dwelt in the region of the shadow of death, light has arisen.” Is. 9:2 and Mt. 4: Our world is in great darkness; it is a culture of death. There are over 50 million surgical abortions throughout the world each year. There are immeasurably more chemical abortions with the use of abortifacient pills. Add to this the various other means of contraception, and we can see how much more man has not cooperated with God’s beautiful plan of life: “And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them. And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, Gen. 1:27-28. “Wherefore a man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife: and they shall be two shall be two in one flesh.” Gen. 2:24 This beautiful plan in which man cooperates with God in the procreation of children brings many blessings to families who bring children into this world.
“Choose a blessing or choose a curse...” Dt. 11:26
If we want our families to be blessed in the New Year, then we must follow the teaching of the great lawgiver and prophet of God in the Old Testament: “Behold I set forth in your sight this day a blessing and a curse: A blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: A curse, if you obey not the commandments of the Lord your. Dt. 11: 26-28
Loss of Faith
Fr. John Hardon, SJ., an American Jesuit priest, reminded families of the grave evil of not accepting the children that God wants to give them.: “Catholics who practice contraception will either give up contraception or give up the Catholic faith.” He also said that in these times of a great loss of faith that only heroic bishops, heroic priests and heroic lay people will be keep the faith. We need to pray and thank God for all His gifts to us, or else we will suffer a severe punishment from God. St. Paul in the Epistle to the Romans writes of a double curse on those who do not pray and honor God: “…when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God, or given thanks; but became vain in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened.” Rom. 1:21.
The Father’s Business:
The Salvation of Souls
In the gospel narrative when Mary and Joseph present Jesus in the temple, the aged Simeon prophesied: “Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace; Because my eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples: A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.” Lk. 2:29-32 Joseph and Mary were overjoyed with Simeon’s prophecy on Jesus being “A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.” Lk. 2:29-32 Joseph and Mary, like all parents, cooperated with God by bringing children into to this world so that they can fulfill God’s will in their lives on earth. What a great dignity it is for parents to be part of God’s beautiful plan of life and the salvation of souls. If children are not conceived, how will they have eternal life in heaven. Parents bring children into this world, not just for this world, but primarily for heaven where they will have eternal life with God. This is why God will bless families who bring children into this world for Him to love for all eternity.
