Fr. George Roth: Holy Matrimony

Today’s Gospel (Mk. 10:2-16) gives us the essential teaching of the Church on Holy Matrimony which is both a holy state and a sacrament of the Church.

New Book on Fatima by Fr. Serafino Lanzetta

Father Serafino’s latest book, Fatima at the Heart of the Church: God’s Vision of History and Oblative Spirituality, is now available to buy from Amazon.co.uk. A Kindle edition is also available for download. All parishioners are warmly invited to the official book launch, which will be held in St Mary’s Hall on Friday 26th October at 7pm.

Pro-Life Appeal

The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has produced postcards for you to send a message to your MP urging him/her to vote against a dangerous new bill that seeks to decriminalise abortion completely, thereby removing the few remaining legal protections for unborn babies in this country. The bill will be put before the House of Commons for a vote on Tuesday 23rd October. You can obtain one of these postcards, which are available at the entrance of St. Mary's Church, and send it to Caroline Dinenage, the MP for Gosport.

New Painting in St. Mary's Hall

Our parish is blessed to have among its members a very gifted artist in Clare Fox, who has recently produced a truly magnificent painting of Our Lady with the Child Jesus. The image, entitled ‘Mary, Mother of the Infant Saviour’, which Clare has so kindly donated to the parish, is now on display in St Mary’s Hall. Parishioners are warmly invited to come and view it for themselves, and it is hoped that all who see it will be inspired to a greater love for and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We are very grateful to Clare for this beautiful gift.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

On Thursdays, in St. Mary's Church, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed from 8:00am and will continue for the whole day, concluding with the Pro-Life Holy Hour at 7:00pm. Also, in St. Columba's Church, every Thursday, there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 10:00am Mass until 12 noon.

You can also tune in live to Radio Immaculata and participate in the Pro-Life Holy Hour live from St. Mary's Church at 7:00pm.

In addition, Adoration now takes place at St. Mary's every weekday morning, from 9am until 12 noon in the Chapel of the Crucifix., for the needs of Holy Mother Church in these times of great turbulence.

Adoration Outreach

Every Thursday, between 1pm and 3pm, a group of parishioners go out onto the High Street to invite passers-by into St Mary’s to light a candle and spend some time in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. This has proven to be a very successful outreach, and a highly rewarding ministry for those involved. If you are available on Thursday afternoons, if only for half an hour or so, why not come along and take part?
