Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Heart of Jesus is a symbol of His love for us. “Behold this Heart, which has so loved human beings that It has spared nothing even to exhausting and consuming Itself in order to prove Its love to them”. These are the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ to St Margaret Mary Alaqoque. The Heart of flesh of Jesus, the Heart which beats for us in the bosom of the God-Man is the immediate, special, proper object of this devotion.

Catechism on the Blessed Virgin Mary

The response of the Blessed Virgin Mary to angelic annunciation that she would bear a child was not one of doubt, as some are wont to affirm, but a simple request of explanation. According to St. Bernard, "Mary does not doubt the fact but asks about the manner and order, since she is not asking if it will come about, but how it will come about.

Adoration Outreach

Every Thursday, between 1pm and 3pm, a group of parishioners go out onto the High Street to invite passers-by into St Mary’s to light a candle and spend some time in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. This has proven to be a very successful outreach, and a very rewarding ministry for those involved. If you are available on Thursday afternoons, if only for half an hour or so, why not come along and take part?

Parish Walking Pilgrimage

August 18, 2018

Over the weekend of 18th/19th August, Father Pio will be leading a pilgrimage along the Way of Saint Augustine, a path that runs from Canterbury Cathedral to the Shrine of St Augustine in Ramsgate, to commemorate the ancient journey undertaken by St Augustine, the Apostle of England, in the 6th Century, when he was sent by Pope Gregory the Great to bring the Faith to England. The walk is around 19 miles long, along which we will recite the Holy Rosary, sing hymns and have the chance to speak with others. Then, on arriving at the Shrine of St Augustine, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered. This pilgrimage is open to all who are able to maintain a good walking pace over the required distance. For more details, to sign up, or kindly to sponsor the walk, please speak to Father Pio or call the parish office on 02392 580119. The cost of the pilgrimage is £20 per person.
