Commentary for Divine Mercy Sunday

Easter is the celebration of Jesus' triumph over death and a pledge of our own resurrection from the dead at the end of our life. By His glorious Resurrection Jesus conquered death and proclaimed life to the world. Fr. George, in his commentary for the Liturgy of Easter Sunday explains the importance of the Resurrection of Christ.

Divine Mercy Sunday

April 07, 2018

On Divine Mercy Sunday, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be sung in St Mary’s Church at 3pm, followed by selected readings from the Diary of St Faustina and Veneration of the Image. There will then be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 4pm until the Latin Mass begins at 5pm. Confession will be available.

Plenary Indulgence for Divine Mercy Sunday

In a decree dated August 3, 2002, the Apostolic Penitentiary announced that in order “to ensure that the faithful would observe this day (Divine Mercy Sunday) with intense devotion, the Supreme Pontiff himself established that this Sunday be enriched by a plenary indulgence…so that the faithful might receive in great abundance the gift of the consolation of the Holy Spirit.  In this way, they can foster a growing love for God and for their neighbour, and after they have obtained God’s pardon, they in turn might be persuaded to show a prompt pardon to their brothers and sisters.”

Video - Homily of Fr. Serafino M. Lanzetta

Here is another homily of Fr. Serafino given in the Holy Land. In this homily, Fr. Serafino explores the connection between the sacrament of Marriage and the bridal relation between Jesus and the Church on Calvary.

Family Planning - The Catholic Way

Next Saturday 14th April, there will be a Marriage and Family Life Seminar in St. Mary's Church. A wonderful opportunity to learn more about topics relating to marriage preparation and enrichment and natural family planning.

In this article, Fr. Pio speaks about Natural Family Planning, a child spacing method which is approved by the Church and which probably is not so much known or embraced by many Catholic couples.

Catechism on the Blessed Virgin

In the coming weeks, we will be posting on St. Mary's Blog articles taken from the book 'Who is Mary?' written by an Italian priest, Fr. Gabriel M. Pellettieri. Devotion to Mary is essential to being Catholic, but one cannot love the Mother of God without knowing Her. This catechism on the Blessed Virgin Mary, hopefully, will help us to come to a deeper understanding of the person and role of the Mother of God in the divine plan of salvation.

Save the Date - Rosary on the Coast of the British Isles

We all know that the Rosary on the Coast will take place on Sunday 29th April at 3.00 pm. I hope you are all going to participate and that you have plans for the day. There will be two meetings for the Rosary in our area, one at St Mary's Gosport and one at St Mary's Portchester; both of which churches are on the Coast. Further details will be available in due course. Visit www.rosaryonthecoast.co.uk for more information, including details of the designated gathering points along the coast.

Table Top Sale Report

The Table Top Sale was a great success. We would like to thank everyone who participated and helped, especially those who kindly donated their undertakings to St. Mary's Beautification Project. The sum of £1,021.53 was raised to help pay for the new floor and heating system in the church.
